To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Heya, folks. There have been some problems with the "%" notation in the address to this list, so I'm currently working on a way so that you guys won't have to do it. Within the next couple of days, the "%itchy" will drop out of all the addresses you need. I'll post a complete description when it happens. Also, when it does happen, will you all let the comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard newsgroup know as well? The change will let a whole lot more people use this list. Thanks to all the people out there who sent me information on the standard, code to implement it, examples, etc., etc. For those of you who undigest digests, let me know if you have any troubles doing so. I know, I know, I promised to have a whole bunch of new stuff in the request server quite a while ago. Just remember, I've got this job, plus school to deal with as well! So there! :) I have made progress. I've put together the new files, and I have the original writers proofreading them now. As soon as I hear back from them, I'll put them up. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any special requests as to what should be available. For you folks who have been with the list for a long time, tell me if there's a specific message from way-back-when that you'd like to see. All you people new to the list can help by telling me what you'd like to know about the UltraSound that you can't find anywhere. Thanks for all your help. The more input I get on this topic, the better the quality of files will be for everyone. -- \\\ "In the spaceship, the silver spaceship, the lion takes control." \\\ \\\ - They Might Be Giants, "Guitar" from Apollo 18 \\\ \\\ \\\ \\ ddebry@dsd.es.com \ debry@peruvian.utah.edu \ Email either address. \\ \\\ David DeBry \\ `finger debry@peruvian.utah.edu` for contact info. \\\ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1992 10:50:24 -0800 (PST) From: Mark Harrison Message-Id: Subject: GUS & CD-ROM drives To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Does anyone have any information concerning the GUS and CD-ROM drives? I'm planning to by a drive real soon and would like to hear from anyone who is using one with the GUS. I'm looking at the Sony 535 right now, but am willing to buy any decent drive. I have a GUS (obviously) and I am not able to get SBOS to work. I have used all the options and the only one that gives me any sound is option 3 but it is all garbled and messed up. I've tried all different configurations but no change. The demos work fine, just not sbos. I have a 486SX-25 with 128k cache, 8 megs RAM and AMI bios. I tried the card in my friends machine which is the exact same as mine except his is a 486DX50 chip. (We have expandable motherboards with ZIF sockets). In his machine I was able to get sbos to work some of the time but I also got OFF BOARD PARITY errors when trying to run the demos. I would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas about this. I have written to Chris Yuzik about it already and am waiting for his reply. That is not going to be good enough for some friends of mine who are using OS/2 exclusively. Any info will be appreciated, but I hope it's good news... :-) Matthew E. The default partically works, however the digitized voice only plays for a half second before stopping. I would assume that the same option/hack would work for both, as they each display identical problems. In any other mode, you get the synthesized audio, but you miss out on the impressive collection of digitized sounds scattered throughout the game. Presumeably, this switch should work for other Sierra adventures as well. This brings to mind the following question: Is there a complete list of SBOS switches? The hardcopy documentation and SBOS -H only mentions -O[1-3], and I only thought to try -X[1-3] from the README file. Even better, is there information on what exactly these SBOS emulation switches DO? StEpHaN! --- Stephan F.
