We don't want to lose > any supporters! Sorry, I REALLY have to disagree with this attitude. In my opinion, EA should indeed have nothing to do with Gravis ever again. Consider that EA has taken an immense amount of flak/heat for something over which they have no control, namely Gravis's delivery fantasies. EA is a business and their reputation is being trashed as a result of this, which ain't good for business. Also, Gravis should indeed pay for both their "predictions" and their attitude about said "predictions." They just don't seem to get it; they can't play fast and loose with their customers and expect to not suffer the consequences. OS/2 drivers? Who cares, we might do 'em. Developer's kits; well, 300 other folks don't have a problem with that nondisclosure. Yea, we'll ship "next week." :-( Come on now... Now, I'm sure the board sounds bloody awesome, but for most folks it's still vapourware! I for one and extremely anger and frustrated over this whole thing, Gravis's excuses and justifications notwithstanding. I want their attitude "corrected" and if they won't take the hints, let them suffer the consequences... DDA ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Nov 1992 11:32:56 -0500 (EST) From: "Adam K. Rixey" Message-Id: Subject: GUS/Modem conflict? To: Ultrasound Daily Digest I've had my GUS for about a week now, and have noticed a possible conflict with my modem. I'm using an internal Lightcom 14400 Fax/Modem set up for Com 4 Irq 3. [My Gravis is on default settings]. When I load up Telix, the computer hangs when the "Initializing Modem" box is on screen - UNLESS I have loaded SBOS. If SBOS is installed, everything works fine. Has anybody else had this problem? On another note, I recently got Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis and would swear that some of the music is in stereo. . .could it be emulating the Roland music? - AkR - ar2w@andrew.cmu.edu ___ Art is anything you can get away with. - Marshal McLuhan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Nov 92 10:22:04 GMT+2 From: Antti Peltonen Message-Id: <9211031022.A01721@smtplink.oulu.fi> Subject: New Cadenza MIDI prg demo in Cica To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Hello GU(y)S, A new MIDI program demo available from anonymous FTP. address: ftp.cica.indiana (tuesday 08:00 GMT) directory: pub/pc/win3/uploads file: cadwdemo.zip The program is CADENZA FOR WINDOWS 2.0 DEMO beta 6 from Big Noise Software I don't have the card yet, but i think that with this demo you can test MIDI features of GUS quite well. (I hope new Windows driver will come out soon...) I would like to read Your comments about GUS and Cadenza How it works, sounds ....? -Antti- apeltone@smtplink.oulu.fi ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Nov 92 19:51:40 PST From: mtichy@sfu.ca Message-Id: <9211030351.AA19796@fraser.sfu.ca> Subject: post to soundcard! To: Ultrasound Daily Digest I agree with the person who said that the digest should also be posted in comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard. Ever since we switched to digest format there has been less and less messages. I believe mainly because it is more difficult to have to go to the trouble of posting a message than to reply to one. Besides comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard has been virtually dead with out the gus talk on there. We could help promote the card by discussing it on there as well. I'd like to know how many people have gotten many of the demos on ftp.uwp.edu in the pub/incoming/demos directory to work with the GUs. I have had very limited success. Putrefac works, vector demo sometimes, a few others I have tried will not recognize the GUS as a soundblaster at all. I've tried the command line switches too. Most of them just hang. ------------------------------ Date: 1 Nov 92 00:48:51 GMT From: dchien@boole.seas.ucla.edu (David H. Chien) Message-Id: <8565@lee.SEAS.UCLA.EDU> Subject: The Multisound and Adlib/SB software & cards To: Ultrasound Daily Digest A Sierra game often is compatible with the Adlib, SB, and Roland sound cards. Many times, other programs are compatible with one or more of these sound cards. Is the Multisound compatible with these programs? y - Which one(s)? and how compatible? n - Can it be made compatible? Does it coexist with the above cards inside a PC? david :) dchien@boole.seas.ucla.edu ------------------------------ Date: 2 Nov 92 10:13 -0800 From: Thomas Wong Message-Id: <2345*twong@civil.ubc.ca> Subject: Ultrasound Daily Digest V1 #6 To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Charles Choi writes: > >I just upgraded from a 386-16 to a 386-40 today, and I'm now >having problems with the ultrasound. Congrats! Normally, PCs are really a pain with no standard on most things. (Although Macs are too expensive to be funny, they do have one good point in that a Mac is a Mac is a Mac. All the scsi drives work with each other, all monitors, mouse.... everything is the same. They don't have a large range of choices like we do with PCs but they have just the one standard so everything is plug and play. And their card is self detecting too so when we plugged an ethernet card into a Mac in our Mac lab for example, it self configures itself on bootup and no jumper or dip switches or setup programs.... need to be run) OK, enough Mac praising! :) PCs have so many 3rd party companies making so many things for them that compatiblity is a BIG issue. We all know that if you want to go scsi, you have to know ahead of time what you want to get so that you can make sure your scsi adapter will be compatible with your scsi devices. But even IDE drives and controllers are not all compatible (we found this out the hard way). Even memory (when you upgrade SIMMs) maybe not be compatible.... You have to be real careful with PC and the compatibility issue. I look after all the computers in our dept so this is a real nightmare for me. :) OK, you don't want to hear about my life story. Onto your problem. It think the "parity error" you talked about is the key problem. If you read through the card-review or gravis-talks files in our mailing list archive (mailserver), you'll find (somewhere in there) a hint from Gravis stating that if you get a such a parity error, try using DMA channels 1 or 3. They had a similar finding on a noname brand clone. Thomas. BTW, you didn't carry your old RAM from the old motherboard to the new one did you? You may also be looking at a speed problem with the speed of the chips on a faster motherboard. ------------------------------ Date: 2 Nov 92 10:26 -0800 From: Thomas Wong Message-Id: <2346*twong@civil.ubc.ca> Subject: Ultrasound Daily Digest V1 #7 To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Paul Wang writes: >Has anyone out there gotten GUS to work with Falcon 3.0: Flying Tiger? >I've gotten music when I'm in the war room but I can't get any other >kind of sound to work at all.
