It kicks booty. Works beautifully, in other words. EVERYONE MUST BUY STARCONTROL 2, TO GET A TASTE OF WHAT THE GUS CAN DO! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Nov 1992 23:58:10 -0400 (AST) From: Shadow Of Fear <8900795@Info.UMoncton.ca> Message-Id: Subject: Forwarded mail.... Wallace Peers Subject: The Adventures Of GUSman To: ultrasnd@dsd.es.com Date: Sat, 21 Nov 92 3:29:29 AST It's Saturday morning, he's been up late all week installing his ultrasound card, only to get up early the next morning to go to class. He's tired, he's beat, his eyes feel like sandpaper, and finally he can sleep in. But wait, what's that sound? GUSman's alarm is ringing. His arm reaches out... Is he trying to shut off his alarm? Is he trying to rip out the power cord? No! He's reaching for a crowbar to pry open his eyes! A smile crosses his face. He throws back the covers and leaps forth, eager to start a day of experimenting with his ultrasound... only to trip over the box which he misplaced in his stupor the night before and land in a heap of Ultrasound Daily Digest printouts. Stumbling to his feet he flicks the computers power switch only to realize he hit the light switch instead and has just blinded himself. undaunted, and after some fumbling, he manages to find the correct switch. He lowers himself into his chair and relaxes as the ultrasound begins to play his opening wav... only to be blown out of his chair when Robin Williams screams "Gooooood Morning Vietnam!!!". It seems during his fumbling he accidently pushed the stereo volume to ten. Climbing once again into his chair, he settles in for a long day of experimentation, when suddenly: "SNAP!" "CRACKLE!" "POP". He panics! Did he blow a chip? Did he fry his speakers? No... it was only his brother walking by with his bowl of rice crispies. Sigh! maybe he should just go back to bed. If you install SBOS, the sound still sounds exactly the same. Don't know if it's still autodetecting the Gravis, or if it's just playing a MOD (which would be dissapointing)... Anyone with a real SB/SBPro to confirm this? Next, in response to Lance Hartmann, the Gravis works fine in my 486/50, SIS chipset, AMI Bios, 16MB. Coexisting with a Roland MPU-401. Finally, for those of you with CD-ROMs, is there an internal audio-in connector for CD-ROM audio? (Not the line in outside, but one of those little pin connectors on the card itself for internal CD-ROMs). Just wondering... How else can one connect the audio out on a CDROM? (I suppose the headphone port on the outside?) Also, does anyone know of a GOOD music composition program to take advantage of the GUS besides Cakewalk? Thanks... Unfortunately it looks like it got zapped last night (this was an early beta of the board) so as of now, we're GUS-less. About Star Control II: The GUS support in SC II is loading all samples from a MOD type song onto the UltraSound's onboard RAM. It is >>NOT<< just using the DAC! Anybody successfully using an SB Pro & a GUS in the same machine? - moddan (Dan Nicholson, PCkS Associates) ------------------------------ End of Ultrasound Daily Digest V1 #27 ******************************
