I realize you need to convert them tp play 'em. I got a file called SUN2VOC.exe , and tried to convert a .au file I downloaded. It I then tried to play it with playfile but it was all crappy. Any ideas what to do? Some of the songs there are good, by good n bands. Is there an FTP site like this one that has .WAV files? I heard of an MTV one. BTW it is athena.sdsu.edu and garfield.catt.ncsu.edu . Also, I got the index for epas, but when I look under voc/dos/util or something, and no files except the index that says there should be a few files there. Are they gone or moved? Well, I think thats it for now :) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jan 1994 19:50:25 +0800 (PST) From: Francis Li Subject: 32-Bit AIL... The 32-Bit AIL drivers are finished, yet I have not seen an official release of them or such to use as a general purpose patch for games that use them. I have been waiting for a while to patch SimCity 2000. I tried copying the DLL's from the Shadow Caster patch, but the patch loader doesn't seem to be able to find the patches?! It was noted that there WAS a bug in the loader, how long is it going to take to get a final release? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jan 94 20:52:01 EST From: Greg Subject: Epic Megagames Zone 66, Epic Pinball and its twin Silverball support the GUS. Xargon, the most recent game by Epic seems to use the same basic engine found in Epic's Jill of the Jungle. JOTJ was released a couple of years ago when the GUS was being released and thus lacks GUS support (I think!). The Help file that came with Xargon specifies that Xargon has the same problems with SBOS that JOTJ has with SBOS. However, the help file also mentions that Epic will support the GUS in 4 new releases this year. I assume that Epic has not decided to drop GUS support. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jan 1994 14:16:41 -0500 (EST) From: Yoo-Shin Lee Subject: Re: GUS Daily Digest V10 #29 Anyone get tetrisp working? I downloaded the .arj and the a01 file. Created the DDISKS directory in the tetris directory, but when trying to run tetrisp.exe the programs can't find the NATURE.DD file inside the DDISKS directory. Any help would be appreciated. (drop to DOS) and if i run windows wo rebooting it says the sound drivers arent installed. but rebooting fixes it all. So this seems like a problem with the new windows drivers. Anyone else had thisd problem? -jim -- ______________________________________________________________________________ Jim English - jenglish@hpc2.keh.utulsa.edu / EJP51823@vax1.utulsa.edu I do not represent the University of Tulsa in any way, but I'm sure if they wanted me too they could easily create another Vice President position and raise tuition. G'day, Thought I'd let you know that the sequel to Pinball Dreams, that is, Pinball Fantasy has native GUS support. The sound is in 4 channel MOD format just like its predecessor. The game looks, feels and sounds very sleek. It's very addictive! Look out for it. l8r! First off, let me say that the Voice Blaster really REALLY *S*U*C*K*S*!!! It's not worth your money at all. I bought one for my father awhile back at Babbage's (where, thankfully, I could and did return it) and I was seriously underwhelmed by the performance. It was about as accurate at recognizing my voice as if the algorithm read something like this: if (input_from_microphone) { do_user_task(random(number_of_defined_tasks)) } It's not even funny. After we took it back, we learned that you HAVE to have a printer for it to work, and you have to have the printer turned ON for it to work. So, to give it a fair shot, we bought it again and tried it out with the printer on. The results were slightly better, but still very terrible. >Does anyone know if it will work with GUS? The salesperson assured me >that it will work with any SB compatible sound card but the GUS, as >awesome a card as it is, has had some probs with total SB emulation in the >past... it's just that they won't let me return it if I buy it because it >is "opened software"... It's not compatible with the GUS at all. SBOS provides playback compatibility, but I don't think it provides recording capability. In any event there's a special little SB-specific doohickey that you have to plug into your parallel port and Sound Blaster, and I don't think it would work with the GUS at all. >MSL price is $199 Cdn, but they are selling it at present for $119 >regular. I asked why the "discount" and they said "monetary fluctuations" >which I can't quite believe considering the value of our Cdn dollar... I only paid $69.95 US for it. I know that Canadian dollars are worth slightly less than US dollars, but I'd still say $119 is a blatant rip-off. And, of course, the thing is worthless at ANY price. If you want to play with some fairly decent voice recognition software, look around for a demo of a package called InCube or something like that. It only works under Windows, but it's VERY good from what I saw. Its recognition algorithm is so good that it can recognize several different people speaking the same words (if they have a similar accent) without having to be trained for each one. Or, at least, it understood me after a friend trained it for himself. I was impressed. --Michael-- << dmcintyr@muselab.ac.runet.edu >> << dmcintyr@vt.edu >> ----------------------------- >Aside from Zone 66, Epic Pinball/Silverball also supports GUS sound... >it would be very disappointing if their newer games don't support GUS... >can anyone confirm or deny this? The docs in their latest release, Xargon, say "we promise to release four new games with GUS support in 1994, in the meantime aren't you glad you decided to install your old Sound Blaster just to play this game?" --Michael-- << dmcintyr@muselab.ac.runet.edu >> << dmcintyr@vt.edu >> ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V10 #30 *******************************
