Greetings all! It would appear from the relative daily postings to the General and Music Digests that the primary use of the GUS is for Gaming. You don't need to even think about Ultramid unless you manually insert GUS AIL or Sierra real-mode drivers into a game that originally lacked GUS support. Games that require Ultramid from the box will usually load it up themselves. > Date: Wed, 27 Apr 1994 10:32:55 -0700 (PDT) > From: "George A. If anything, the GUS, the Max, the Sound Canvas, the AWE32, etc. are "sample playback" devices as opposed to "true wavetable". Apparently, there is a section in this file that mentions problems w/Adaptec SCSI controllers (I/O 330h). This also applies to my SCSI controller. I moved a jumper so the SCSI card now uses I/O 234h and this problem has gone away. It is much better than Miracle, if you really want to learn. It comes with a midi conector, hooks up no problem to the gus. The program itself is very user friendly, and easy to use. You can use any MIDI keyboard (as far as I can tell). For the GUS, you need to load in the instrument patch, if you want playback through the MIDI, when being shown keys etc. Otherwise, it comes out the speakers of the line out jack. They also have sent me 2 upgrades, at no cost. The only glitch, is every once in a while a note is missed from the keyboard. This happens on a regular sound blaster also, using a different keyboard. So, this isn't a GUS problem. The occurs very infrequently,as of the last update. NOTE: This is a Windows program. So you can download files, and play the keyboard together. I decided to check it out because it sounded cool. I went to the sound setup screen and what did I find? There was a choice for the GUS (and the crowd goes--yeah). Too bad the demo only had SB (notice that if you flip the letters around you get BS...how ironic) sound. But the readme file did say that the rest of the soundcards will be implemented in the real version. By the way, the choice for GUS said "Gravis Ultrasound FM". Isn't that an oxymoron or something, seeing as how the GUS is wavetable? Anyways, the game is made by BullFrog (of Syndicate fame). It's basically a Sim-Amusement Park game. The graphics look pretty good and it seems to be a fun game. Why did I write this in the first place? Who knows...I guess I was just bored.
