Granto" Subject: 3.53 Windows startup .WAV problems I too have found that the new GUS software (v3.53) does scewy things. The startup .WAV sound gets corrupted; it starts playing a bit into the .WAV, then finishes prematurely, and then suddenly plays the end. Anyone have a solution for this? I saw that others have been getting this same problem, and was hoping someone had solved it. Also, I have noticed a lot of background noise with the new Windows drivers; has anyone else experienced this? While just tooling around Windows there is significant noise, and this has NEVER occured before. I have not changed any hardware or software besides the new GUS software. Any help would be appreciated! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Joe Granto GLOCK@chip.cba.ufl.edu "When the going gets tough, the tough get a GLOCK!" --Guns & Ammo "Don't clock'em, GLOCK'em!" --Miami Dade police officer --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 94 20:47:00 -0800 From: chris.campbell@mag-net.com (Chris Campbell) Subject: A few questions Message-ID: I have two questions, first thanks to Hank for the info on Epic Pinball, I'll take advantage of the upgrade offer. 1) Has anyone optimized the file GUS1MB for a 768k GUS? I really want to use the optimized patch set, but I only have 768k. If not, could someone who knows how please take on the project of optimizing Doom for a 768k GUS? 2) Does anyone have the final Survey results from comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard? The latest I have seen was about a week ago. I'm getting the new GUS installation tommorow, thanks for posting your messages about it. If anyone has made a GUS768k, please mail me at chris.campbell@mag-net.com or post here. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 94 21:16:01 +0300 From: Yossi Oren Subject: Re: GUS Daily Digest V13 #24 >Date: Fri, 27 May 94 10:20:26 +0200 >From: oss@itnsg1.science.unitn.it (Stefano Oss) >Subject: Setup disks 3.53 and DB 16 bit > >Hallo everybody: Yo Stefano! > >Does anybody know if the new setup disks (3.53) can be installed over the >3.11 install version which comes with the 16 daughterboard? Yep. Automatic driver detection and all that crap. Full support, yada yada yada. No problem. Go ahead. Yossi. PS Am I the only one who noticed the bad looping on the high part of the piano patch? The latest hardware compatibility list (came with the new Daytona beta) does not list GUS. I also have a SBPro in another system, but I want to keep the GUS in the main system. Can anyone help? p.s. (Imperial College, london) I posted them a while back suggesting that they do a mirror ofthe archives, which they have now done. I recommend that U.K. and European users use this site, because it's blisteringly fast. They had a problem with their ftp setup last week, but it's been fixed now look in /comp/audio/ultrasound and Dave, do you want to put this at the end of the digest, with the others? Now, I'll see if I can get them to mirror the submit directory at epas Stefan (I may lurk, but I do stuff too !) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 May 94 14:04:52 +0100 From: Stefan Subject: New windows driver problem I've just installed the new drivers, and they're screwed for me. I use the Backmenu shareware program as my shell, not program manager and on startup I get ; Backmenu caused a gpf in module ultrasnd.drv at 0001:AA6F at which point I then have to exit. Sounds like the same problem as the bloke with NDW.... Any ideas Anyone? TIA Stefan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 May 1994 02:33:03 -0400 From: KWAN RICHARD SIK YIU Subject: Urgent! New drivers and NDW problems! Does anyone who tried the new sets of windows drivers and NDW 3.0? Somehow the new sets of drivers crashes my NDW each time it loads up. It works fine with plain windows. I hope someone would know how to prevent this GPF. Thanks in advance! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 94 13:19:12 EDT From: gchung@eden.rutgers.edu (Greg Chung) Subject: Windows drivers and startup sound, revisited Yesterday I posted a message that I was having troubles with the new GUS Windows drivers and the Windows startup sound getting cut off. I realized that the problem was the default GUS DMA buffer of 4096 bytes was too big for my QEMM DMA buffer of 128 bytes 8-). Oops. I suppose the only reason why the problem (voice cutoff) showed up during startup is that's the only time when the machine is loaded enough that QEMM can't keep up. The problem went away when I upped the QEMM DMA buffer to 1k and likewise reduced the GUS DMA buffer down to 1k. This leads me to think that DMA buffer overflow could have been causing voice cutoff in some games (where QEMM again wouldn't be able to empty the buffer fast enough). I really don't know enough to say anything about this, but it's a layman's speculation 8-) Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of any game that did exhibit voice cutoff to test my hypothesis. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 May 94 02:34 WET DST From: lmirage@io.org (Led Mirage) Subject: Win drivers I got the new GUS install disks. The new patches are amazing! Thank you Advanced Gravis!!! Now, there is some kind of problem with the new Win drivers, though. It seems that the .wav file that is played at startup get screw up when I set acctive voice at high number, but fine at 22. I have not try testing at what number does it start screwing up, but setting 22 active voice seems fine. Weird. Also, I noticed just now that my Windows setting was changed, without me touching anything, andd they were totally wrong settings! GF1 irq should be at 11, but was at 5, DMas should be at 5, but were at 3. Wonder if anyone has the same problem. ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V13 #26 *******************************
