I recently installed my brand new GUS in my computer, which already had a sound card on board: The Sound Galaxy NX Pro 16. It is a card which supports 5 sound standards: SBPro2, AdLib, Disney Sound Source, COVOX and Speech Thing II. I had it set to the following configuration: BASE: 220 IRQ: 7 DMA: 3 I realised that some programs would not recognise the card's presence since it is not of the standard SB config (220, 7, 1). Anyways, my GUS seems to be working OK in DOS, but some instruments do not sound in Windows. By the way, my GUS has the configuration of: BASE: 240 GUS IRQ: 11 SB/MIDI IRQ: 5 PLAY/REC DMA: 1 The Sound Galaxy, on the other hand, hangs the computer when I try any 16-bit wave files. It appears to be something with EMM386 and the DMA... EMM386: DMA mode not supported. Press ENTER to reboot. I have read Tobin M. Creek 's SBGUSFAQ.TXT, but he admits to know nothing about the Sound Galaxy. Anyone with *ANY* information at all, please E-mail me or reply trhu this digest. Thanks a million!!! Only thing is I can not seem to get it to work. It may be that I do not have enough conventional RAM. How do people playing it ahve the game setup with their GUS? Greetings All... I have been having a little bit of trouble getting Rebel Assault to work with the GUS... I am running on a 386DX/33 with 5megs RAM (No MathCo) and a Mitsumi 2x CDROM, and my GUS has 512k RAM. For some reason, whenever I try to play RA (yes, I do have the 1.7 patch release). The music is really jerky, like I can't even make out any of the voices or what the music is actually supposed to be. Also, the graphics are displayed very, very, very slow. I realize that I don't have a speed demon of a machine here, but it should be faster. Oh yes, and I did disable HIMEM and EMM386... Can someone please help me to get this thing working! Thanks! I know... Yeh, yeh. I know. v3.53 was for the MAX plus some other minor fixes. I just thought that it *might* have had some impact on apps. under OS/2. A vain hope, perhaps. Anyway, my ULTRA4D OS/2 drivers work fine (if mightily slow in 8Mbytes!). I heard someone was having bother with 0.4.3 (whichever that is). Have you loaded the CSD upgrade? Just a thought... Because I have serious problems with games locking up, I want to find someone who has the same main board as I have. So, if YOU have a HOT-409 486DX-40 VL BUS main board, and if YOU are running games like DOOM or RAPTOR without problems, then please contact me. I'm VERY interested in YOUR bios-setup. Thankx...Olli ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V14 #13 *******************************
