I'd like to buy an Ultrasound MAX... Unfortunately, I'm not yet a registered customers, but I can't stand having to pay the full price when I know I could pay $175 for it if I was registered .. Is there anybody out there registered who could buy it for me ?? By the way, I'm interested in the Magic Piano which is presented in the last issue of Compulife : Can we buy the keyboard without the card and the speakers ? Is it working with the Max ? Is it working BETTER with the Max ?? Any comments about this stuff interest me !!!! Thanx. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Nov 94 17:50:31 +0200 From: Yossi Oren Subject: CD to WAV; GUSMAX featured in pro music magazine. OK, I was looking for the CD-DA to WAV converter and I found these 2 files in EPAS mirrors: cddaread.zip and cdinfo13.zip. Both go directly from the CD data to your HD without the ADC on the GUS. cddaread mentioned SCSI so it may not work on other interfaces... I'm not sure. I couldn't find the MPU-401 emulator so I'll just zip it up from my HD and stick it in EPAS... hope it's OK with the author. AND, finally, a friend of mine has showed me a CDROM called "Future Music" or something. It's part of a magazine by that name and contains demos of MIDI modules, samples and loops, and songs by unsigned bands. Anyway, one of these disks contained SWNGCAFE.MID as rendered by the UltraMax. I was very proud since the M1, SCC-55 and friends were also in these CDs. What this has to teach Gravis is that they should ask one of the GUSsers around here to write a demo-ish song - the ones with the slap basses and brass sections, you know - and put it on the GUS distribution disks. Yossi. PS There was some hotshot Yamaha synth demoed as well - that thing had a "wah" guitar which was probably sysex-controlled, since it sounded REALLY non-GS. |IN REAL LIFE: |IN PHYSICAL REALITY: |lioren1@weizmann.weizmann.ac.il |Yossi Oren, Nahal, |Gravis Ultrasound advocate, (a.k.a. Picked up a copy of DOOM2 on CDROM and guess what?? They FINALLY fixed the sound problems! It sounds awesome like 1.2 did, but without the lockups.... sweet!!!! I know the patch isn't out, but I took my copy of 1.666 back to the store and traded it for a copy of 1.7! Oh, I am using a 1meg GUS MAX. Haven't tried it on my work machine with just a GUS. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Nov 1994 22:36:21 +0200 (GMT+0200) From: webb@elrond.cs.sun.ac.za (Alan Webber) Subject: Doom: No music...! Hi, I have tried unsuccessfully for the last 3 weeks to get Doom running with my Gus Max. With both Doom 1.2 and Doom 2, I can only get sound effects, but no music. I have played with the volume controls in doom to alter sound fx and music volumes, but all I hear is the sound effects. I've tried all the diagnostics bundled with my Gus Max (setup etc). and everything seems ok. I've check my motherboard with a few diagnostics and all dma channels etc. seem perfectly ok. The Gus Max works perfectly under Linux. I have tried different combinations of dma channels, irq's, base addresses to no avail. I have clocked my Dx/2-66 down to 33, changed the ISA bus rate down to 7 Mhz. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get my Gus working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I used to have long hair, but have pulled most of it out over a problem that I have been having with interrupt handlers. Working in C, It is supposed to go like this: 1) enable interrupts for the function desired. 2) pass (eg.) UltraWaveHandler() your handler name. 3) sit back and enjoy watching your handler get executed each time a voice reaches endpoint. I get a seemingly recursive 'stack overflow' runtime error when the interrupt occurs. I have to reboot. Do I need to do anything in my handler to acknowledge the interrupt? I tried stopping the voice, moving the endpoint, reading voice register 0x8f. I don't really think that the program is reaching my handler function though, because simple printf's do not get performed there. Could anyone PLEASE give me some info. on how to set this up? This is prolly my last obstacle between me and the creation of great GUS free/shareware. Thank you, in advance. toby@tango.ucsb.edu ps. even some C source code that works would do the trick. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Nov 1994 10:46:40 +1100 (EST) From: Anthony Thompson Subject: HMI Drivers and Dynamix Ive just about had enough of Dynamix. Guess what?? it uses HMI drivers and the GUS support doesnt work. What is going on here?? Can someone at gravis explain whats going on or give me an answer. It couldn't even play midis properly. Don't bother with it.Just >stick with eith 5.46 or 5.34. Well, it works fine with my computer (GUS v2.4) I only use my GUS for MIDI playback, the wave part is done by another soundcard in my computer (PRO 3D), so I don't know if I had the chirp problem but I got the 5.47 ones just to have the most recent ones. Anyway, I installed the GUS wave driver and I don't have any chirp at all, I guess these drivers do work. MIDI files plays great as usual. Can I see it in my manual or on the anti-static bag so I don't have to reopen my computer? JP. ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V16 #6 ******************************
