I have Amtex 8 Ball Deluxe ver.2.0 which only seems to work with SBOS 1.20. ver.1.0 worked with any SBOS and MegaEm. These Pinball Sims Are way cool but if they don't handle a GUS who wants Speaker sound?? Thanks in advance to all who may know about this and respond. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Dec 1994 08:43:34 -0800 (PST) From: John Tomaszewski Subject: Fast switching between Ultrasound and UltraSnd 1024. I've got at least one program that requires I use the Ultrasnd 1024 driver to get both Music and sound FX (Kap'n Karaoke from WordPerfect). Does anyone have any suggestions for automating the switch between drivers when I want to run this program? The best I've been able to do is have 3 icons for the program: 1) Macro to select the 1024 driver and restart Windows (still requires additional input to "run" the macro after the Recorder app is launched. 2) Program 3) 2nd Macro to switch drivers back and restart windows back again. Is there some easy way to write to a ?????.ini file with the first macro so that when it restarts, this new instance of Windows has Kap'n Karaoke in the Startup group? Then secondly, is it possible to have the 2nd macro automatically launched when I exit from Kap'n Karaoke? I'd like to be able to have the UltraSound driver running by default, just click on a single icon to have the other driver installed and launch the app, and then have the UltraSound driver re-installed upon exiting from the app. Any suggestions? Thanks. However, by booting clean with nothing more than my CDROM and mouse drivers loaded (NO HIMEM or EMM386), I DID manage to get SOME sound using "sbos -o3". It was somewhat jerky, skipping a second or two every so often and filled with clicks and pops, but at least it was SOUND and gave you a general idea of what was going on. I called Spectrum HoloByte tech support line, and when I told them I had a GUS their reply was to "use the SoundBlaster emulation and select SoundBlaster for the soundcard". I told him this didn't work and asked if there were any plans to support the GUS in the final product and he said no. The demo (and I assume the game) appears to use HMI drivers. I poked around in one of the .INI files and found the text string "Gravis Ultrasound", but I don't know if that's useful in any way. Is there any way to hack GUS support in? Would it do any good to start an e-mail campaign to get GUS support for the final product (anyone have Spectrum HoloByte's e-mail address)? Sorry for the long-winded post. This is Rush from the new demo group Bodies in Motion from eastern Canada, the province of New Brunswick to be exact. We are just starting to put some stuff out now so all of you probably haven't heard of us... There isn't much, but if you wanna check out our dir pub/msdos/demos/groups/bodies.in.motion at ftp.eng.ufl.edu there are some small progs there. Anyway, the reason I am posting to the GUS digest it that I am the Musician/Graphician and I love my GUS. I recently released an MTM done with MultiTracker. The file is joseph2.zip in pub/msdos/demos/music/songs/mtm at ftp.eng.ufl.edu. joseph1.zip is there too, but it has a little error in it. Anyway, it is a remix of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Many of the songs from the show are in it. It's about 300k or so and it uses 32 channels (although I think 26 or 28 simultaneously max.) It also play ok with Mod4Win if you have a fast CPU and lots o' ram. I would appreciate it if you would take a listen and tell me what you think. My e-mail is j5oa@jupiter.sun.csd.unb.ca Credit also goes out to Huey Lord (if you're out there) who helped me arrange it. Thanks...L8er Rush / BIM Craig Galbraith are you phishsperienced? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Dec 1994 08:43:11 -0800 (PST) From: John Tomaszewski Subject: Re: Recording problems. (fwd) Date: Fri, 16 Dec 1994 12:35:23 -0800 (PST) From: John Tomaszewski To: GUS Daily Digest Subject: Re: Recording problems. Well I managed to get a recording from my mic in Windows thanks to : Daniel Nilsson, Gary Wingert, and Shi Sherebrin. There was at least one, and maybe two things that contributed to the problem: 1) The mic _was_ disabled in the Mixer applet. I hadn't really looked at the Mixer and thought enabling the mic in an application would do the trick; it didn't. In my version of the Mixer there was a "mute" checkbox for the mic that needed to be unchecked (it wasn't in the control menu which has, I believe, a "Select Recording Source" option, as some other people have found). Also here the recording volume must be set to something other than 0. 2) I was playing around with GoldWave trying to get a recording after doing the above, and still wasn't having any luck when I stumbled on a recording level slider bar in there as well (under the Options menu), which was set to zero. When I increased this I got my first recording. this is probably only significant in GoldWave but I'd swear I didn't get Sound Recorder to work either until after I changed this. But to be honest, it was late and I wasn't being very scientific about the process so it could be a delusion. Anyway I thought I'd mention it. Thanks again for the help, and if you can help with switching between drivers for patch-caching and nonp-c apps please see my other post. ******************************************************************** ** ** ** ** * ** DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY ** ** ** ** ** * ** tomasz@helix.chem.washington.edu ** ** ** ** ** * ** ** ** ***** ***** JOHN TOMASZEWSKI ** ******************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Dec 94 16:49:52 MET From: (Martijn de Jong) Subject: What's in a Wav-file? Hi Gussers, I'm working on a board that's recording audio directly to a HD from whatever what digital equipment without interference from a soundcard, but for the software part I need to know what's in a Wav-file. For example what kind of things ought to be in the header. Hope someone can help Second question: Does anyone know what frequency Gravis uses as an input to the DAC? Do they use the oversampling capabilities of it, or do they just use a frequency of 32*44,1 kHz (2 * 16bit * 44,1) or maybe a frequency of 64 * 44,1 kHz. Thanks in advance, Martinus. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Dec 1994 15:47:01 +0100 From: mammet Hi ! This is the first time I post here so don't be alarmed if you got problems with reading me ... I just wanted to say you that I bought yesterday the game called Commader Blood, by CRYO. It's a very good game but te trouble is that it isn't compatible at all with the gravis (even with sbos or mega-em), even if you can read on the back side of the box that it supports it natively ! I phoned to Cryo, and they saud me that they were working on the problem, because they had a last minute bug ! They said me the patch would be ready for the end of the week ! I'll say you if the patch is ready ! bye ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V17 #19 *******************************
