Like the title saids, it does work. I've tried it. Tthe music is kinda scracthy but it's there. It plays MODs. If you wanna listen to the music when not in the game use DMP and play the .AMFs(I think there's 2 of 'em). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Dec 1994 15:52:49 -0500 (EST) From: Daniel LeBlanc Subject: Aladdin works with SBOS YEP ! i use SBOS 3.7 and ULTRASND=220,5,5,5,7 no special switchs ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Dec 1994 17:53:29 -0800 From: daniels@solar.sky.net Subject: Answer to ? in previuos digest >(...KQ7 crashes...) I knew Crystal was a brand name, I just don't know any specs on the chip. Thanks for replying, but next time could you try to be a little less condescending? Not everyone has a degree in electrical engineering or something like that. People might get scared to ask a simple question for fear of getting riddiculed or talked down to. Please correct me if i am wrong but the memory on the gus affects only music no? SFX are DMA'ed and GUS memory won't affect performance ? right? Actually i have succeded in having MUSIC in DESCENT by choosing NO SOUND CARD but only MUSIC CARD ... Anyways.. this remembers me of RAPTOR wich once worked for me (was it on my 386?) but no longer since i have my 486... maybe it's something related with the MEMORY ACCESS timings on the motherboard.. I wich i could get rid of all those troubles.. BTW my gus works well with other DMA-SFX wares like DOOM! Ugh, once again someone totally misunderstands something, and thinks what they are saying is pertinent and accurate. The previous poster was refering to the Crystal *CODEC* which is found on the GUS Max. This is a -real-, -physical- chip found on the GUS max. It has nothing to do with the 'Voice Crystal' (which is nothing more than a "brand name" for the company Eye & I Productions synth patch line) patches found with the GUS. Don't take this too hard, but please, have an f-ing clue before you post somewhere. - Dan Nicholson ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Dec 94 14:43:45 EST From: rschutt@pen.k12.va.us (Ryan Andrew Schutt) Subject: GUS max and windows I am having trouble getting my GUS max to work with windows (3.1). Message-ID: I have been experienceing problems with the sound in these two games. I have had no success with Master of Magic CD (all emulators locked up for me). Death Gate CD shipped using the new AIL3.0 drivers (which included support for the GUS MAX), but didn't support the GUS. I patched this using the new AIL drivers, and recieved Digital Sound from the game (using ultra.dig), but when I tried to use the Ultra.mdi driver for music, the game lockes up. (there is a umid.bat in the directory which loads ultramid; but the doc. for the AIL 3.0 drivers says ultramid conflicts with this....so I don't use this batch file). Is there any way to get sound/music from Master of Magic, and Music from Death Gate? I wanted to make some comments and ask a few questions: 1> I've been running the Descent demo, even with smartdrive and it works just fine. I don't care much for the game, but everything seems to be in order. 2> I had to tweak around to get doom to work with the gus, but after setting the IRAs to 5 and 7 (I think MIDI = 5) it works fine. I don't understand why the chain gun's ratatatat sound is slower on the gus than on my friend's system with a soundblaster (16 I assume). 3> I'm running os/2 2.1, with 5 megs of ram. I'm getting warp soon. I installed the alpha drivers, and while the system doesn't report any errors, I don't get sounds when I play midi files. (Before, when I used a different driver, not the Manley ones I think- those I couldn't get to work at all, the system gave me an error message when I tried to play midi files.) No sounds at all, but the system doesn't tell me that there is a problem. 4> Is it possible to transfer registration information to my name, since this _is_ a used card? I also don't have any manuals, are they necessary and if so, how do I get them? 5> Does the gus play back 16bit wav files? I seem to be having problems (in windows) playing these. 6> Final question: I've had a few problems with the system one day not recognizing any gus card plugged into the isa bus, and then later that day or the next day, the card is recognized and the driver programs work just fine. It is currently working right now, but my next bootup, the system could decide not to find the card. Would this be due to a problem with the card, the moboard (its new) or just a bug in the ISA bus which wouldn't be fixed by getting, say a new GUS or even a different sound card altogether? So far I'm impressed with the GUS card, but with only 3 games to look at, and the demos that came with the gravis card (those disks) I can't say that I've seen it all, with respect to the GUS and what the gus can do. I suppose I'll have to find an example of FM synthesis to compare to wave table to see the difference. "I have no respect for the passion of equality, which seems to me merely idealizing envy." Well, here we are at the end of December and Gravis has yet to release the new Megaem. Will they ever? I don't care anymore. I've finally dumped my GUS. Too little too late, that's all I can say about Gravis' "support" of the GUS. ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V17 #30 *******************************
