Billinge" Subject: 3.59 instruments I recently downloaded and installed the new v3.59 install disks. Everything's okay except two instruments, which I assume is down to the 3.59 install which replaced all my patches. The first problem is the celesta, which has been changed dramatically and is not as realistic as it used to be - could someone upload a copy of the old one to epas? The second is just something which has remained the same since the very early days of the GUS - the strings patch marcato.pat is STILL left-right reversed. The lower strings go on the RIGHT, not on the left - unless of course you are listening from a position in the orchestra. It's not really much of a problem, since the patch can easily been modified with Patch Maker, but it's just an easy-to-fix point that's been ignored up to now. Slight problem. It doesn't work. I was hoping to use it with TIE FIGHTER. I try to run GRAVUTIL, and calibrate. The square is flying around everywhere! Nothing I do stops it, EXCEPT holding one of the 2 buttons. When a button is pressed, everythings ok. Tie has the same thing. Cursor and Ship flight erratic unless button pressed. I really don't want to play the whole games forced to constantly shoot... Trim doesn't help at all, and the only thing I could find in the manuals is A) GUS MAN: Y ADAPTER CABLES don't work with GUS (nothing in Stick manual about y cable), B) JOYSTICK MAN: Erratic movermet due to non-speed compensating game port. (Thought the gus max had a speed compensating game port. Says so on the box!) I want to know if I can do anything else, short of buying a game card. (didn't get one because I THOUGHT I could use the GUS). If you can help, PLEASE do! Do I need a midibox as pictured in the manual? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jan 1995 17:00:02 -0500 From: adu@freenet.vcu.edu (Andrew Du) Subject: GUS & AWE32 In my last message, I asked why there isn't an AWE32 emulator for the GUS. Someone replied asking what the AWE32 had that the GUS didn't have. That's not what I meant. The purpose of an AWE 32 emulator would not serve for the card's features, but for compatibility. Also, some chorus and reverb features wouldn't be that bad either. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jan 1995 01:25:44 -0300 (ADT) From: Andre Arseneault Subject: GUS and WC3 Gussers, I Know this has already been answered but I don't remember the answer. How can Gus and Wing Commander III work together. This information is for a friend and any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. HMI is aware of it and is notifying game companies of how to work around it. In the meantime, you can get rid of the skips by lowering your ISA bus speed until they go away (7.19MHz for my machine). You'll probably take a performance hit, though. Because I am very pleased with my GUSMAX, I use it for games, music (MIDI & TRACKERS), I would like to know if I can still go on using my GUSMAX as I am used to. Are there allready drivers available for WIN95 or will the WIN3.x drivers do??? Can anyone tell me what DRAM chip to use when upgrading GUS Max from 512KB to 1MB ? I know it must be 256x16, 40 pin, surface mount DRAM, but what I'm asking is can I find that kind of a chip from f.e. any network or display adapter ? Any help is appreciated ! P.S. What is that MAXSBOS so many people been talking about ? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jan 95 15:43:32 PST From: "Ferdinand Mataragnon" Subject: GUS MAX memory chips Hello. How many memory chips does the max use? Also, could someone please give me the numbers so I can find the right one? Lastly, are the chips surface mount type? Thanks in advance. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jan 1995 16:35:38 -0500 (EST) From: Kai Wu Subject: Help with mic recording needed! I can't seem to record properly with the GUS under Windoze. I'm using a microphone (an Apple Mac mono mike with a stereo plug) which I've already tested with a tape recorder and it worked fine there. When I use Sound Recorder or Goldwave under Win 3.1, I have to shout into the mike at the top of my lungs before even the faintest sound is recorded; a regular volume voice is not picked up at all. I've tried fiddling around with the ultrinit.ini, setting the mic input levels and gain to numbers like 75 and 100, but with no luck. Can any fellow GUSer out there shed the light?? What is the difference between GUS and GUS MAX, i mean that difference, that this program uses? Why is it better than SBOS? What is it at all? Did somebody tried it out? It is new, it is in the submit dir on every GUS FTP site. It is 1 Megabyte long! Please tell me something about it!!! Is the new Megaem for Protected mode out yet? If not, what is the latest expected date of release? By the way, anyone been able to get the Dark Forces demo to produce ANY sound out of a GUS? It runs entirely in DOS/4GW protected mode, but it has no native GUS support and won't even recognize SBOS. Has anyone had any luck with this? Oh, Descent rocks with the GUS. Kicks the crap out of dinky SB. If you have problems try running it from a boot disk with bare minimums, like just the ultrasound init stuff and environmental vars. Thanks for any and all help regarding MegaEm and/or Dark Forces, Steve Sesterhenn ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jan 1995 14:28:34 -0600 From: Tom Sedlack Subject: Revision Upgrade Path I am currently running v3.53 (with the windows patch applied) on my 1 MEG GUS. I was going to upgrade the software to v3.57. My question is, do I need to go to v3.56 first or can I go straight to 3.57?? Are there any features/utilties/programs included with 3.56 that are not in 3.57??
