So what i did is install 3.59 as usual and then got ONLY the first disk of 3.57 type INSTALL and restore the file ULTRINIT.EXE Everything seams to be perfect as before.... (BTW anobody got MK2DEMO to work with GUS ?) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Feb 1995 10:50:34 +0800 From: "Christopher Bolin" Subject: 3.59 mucking with my mouse >>On FIRST loading WfW 3.11 when I use File Manager I cannot change >>which drive File Manager is 'looking' at by clicking on the drive >>icon. Why does the sound driver have ANYTHING to do with the comm.drv? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Feb 1995 10:24:14 +1100 (EST) From: MAYSON EMITT L Subject: GUS & SBPRO2 together under Warp. Hello all! I currently have in my system a GUS (V3.4) with 1 Mb RAM and a Sound Blaster Pro 2. At the moment I have the GUS plugged into the SBPro2 and the output of it going to my stereo. This is fine under DOS and Windows, and it also gives my virtually 100% compatibility will any program, I just make sure the SBPro2 is on and set at the correct levels using SB-SET. Now I also have just recently installed OS/2 Warp (And soon Linux, so maybe I'll have this problem again :) and I wish to achieve the same effect. I have the new Alpha GUS drivers installed and working at the moment but I have to have the GUS connected directly to the amplifier because the SBPro2 has not been set up (I did this on purpose originally since I wanted to make sure everything was Ok with the GUS). Now, can the two sets of drivers work together and what values do I need to set to turn on line-in in the SBPro2. I opened up my machine again and disabled the SBPro's joystick port and re-enabled the GUS port. Then I checked the port with gravutil. No Problem. I checked the port with NHL Hockey. No Problem. I checked the port with NASCAR which was still set up to use the SBPro for sound. No Problem. I changed the setup in NASCAR to use the GUS and presto! The joystick went berserk again. So it has nothing to do with my port but the sound drivers are somehow interfering with the port. Has this ever shown up in any other games? I think from the reponses I have seen to this problem that it is not an isolated probem. Many others have this too. Someone has said that they had already contacted Papyrus and they had no intentions of dealing with it. NASCAR is known to have MANY bugs in it so I guess this is just another one. They have already released one patch for NASCAR, maybe the next one will correct this problem although I doubt it. To the guy who said to disable the joystick in the menus.....how do you do that? Maybe he's right. The interference with the joystick is only occurring in the menus and not in the game. My thanks go to Mike Barboni who had some problems as well. His suggestion was to use the ultrinit.exe from the previous release in place of the 3.59 ultrinit.exe. I tried this and everything now works fine. I wonder about the difference in the size of the two ultrinit.exe files (about 18k versus about 58k!!) but everything I've tried works ok. Any body else with similar problems should try Mike's fix. For Gravis (if they read this) - this problem should be addressed together with other problems on 3.59 and hopefully a fix posted. Thanks again to Mike and thanks in anticipation to Gravis. Rod Walker (rmwalker@nyx.cs.du.edu) ------------------------------ End of GUS Daily Digest V19 #5 ******************************
