What's with the "3D" words in your setup!?!? Has Gravis started shipping 3D cards?!?!? Do you have any 3D demo stuff? I can get the background music going as well as the sound effects, but when I try to use the announcer option, everything freezes up.... What is the proper SBOS option to select? Or is it possible to get this to work at all? Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jan 93 11:06:46 EST From: mercurious@knight.spd.louisville.edu Message-Id: <9301231908.AA0034@knight.spd.louisville.edu> Subject: Help To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Help ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pat Lankswert, Graduate Student, Speed Engineering, U of Louisville pclank01@knight.spd.louisville.edu | New and improved signature pclank01@starbase.spd.louisville.edu | No artificial colors | or preservatives ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jan 93 10:09:12 WET From: dp@hydra.carleton.CA (Dave Perry VE3IFB) Message-Id: <9301231509.AA01463@hydra.carleton.CA> Subject: MIDI interface problems To: Ultrasound Daily Digest I too built up a midi interface and have been using it successfully with my keyboard. Regarding the computer lockup problem, I've found that this occurs whenever: 1. SBOS is resident 2. There is a signal on the midi in connector If I turn off the keyboard, unplug the midi in connector, or unload sbos before using the keyboard, everything is fine. I don't think it's a problem with the interface circuit. It's more likely to be a problem with sbos - perhaps it isn't handling an interrupt correctly or something. BTW, I built up the interface with the 'ls04 and the opto which has been posted a couple of places. In my version I subbed a 6N137 opto and used a 4K7 resistor between pins 6 and 8.I also added a 0.1 uF bypass capacitor between pins 5 and 8 as recommended in the data sheet. Just another variation for your files :-) Dave Perry ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Jan 1993 17:38:18 -0600 From: Terry Lee Message-Id: <199301232338.AA01348@uieosa.csl.uiuc.edu> Subject: Possible bug in PLAYMIDI.EXE 3.40 and 3.50 To: Ultrasound Daily Digest I've just tried out the new 1.22 disks, and I've noticed that the new PLAYMIDI (3.50) will hang in the middle of some MIDI files. I can hit a key and exit to DOS prompt, but if I try PLAYMIDI again it will often lock up my system tight. But this only happens with some MIDI files; for example BRWNJUG.MIDI and NUTCRACK.MID (from MIDISNGS.ZIP on archive.epas.toronto.edu). PLAYMIDI 3.40 also seems to have the same problem. Before I tried the 1.22 disks, I have never had any problems with PLAYMIDI or SBOS. I have also tried DARETRO, GUSMOD, and P669GU0 without any problems. My setup is a 1 MB GUS in a 486/33 system with the OPTi-486SXWB chipset. I have heard of some OPTi chipsets having a faulty DMA controller, but the DMA controller chip on my motherboard (what would normally be the 82C206 chip) is actually an F85C206 chip made by SiS, so that shouldn't be the problem here. And also as I mentioned, I have not have had any problems with SBOS or anything else. The GUS settings are the standard choices except that I'm using DMA channel 5 and interrupt 2 for SBOS. The last important information is that I am running my bus at 11 MHz. I found that if I lower the bus speed to 8.25 MHz, then PLAYMIDI 3.40 and 3.50 both work fine. Maybe some change between PLAYMIDI 3.21 and 3.40 has made the timing tolerance too tight? And Gravis, thanks for your continuing effort to improve the software! Of course, an OS/2 driver would be much appreciated, too!
