Just wanted to know if anyone could get the announcer (Al Micheals) to work with this game. It's a kind of strange game. It asks you to specify what kind of sound card you want to use for music, AND what kind of sound card you want to use for sound effects. I selected SoundBlaster for both. Now I get the music, but as for the sound effects, the game says it can't find the device I selected which is strange because I'm using the same device successfully for the music! The only thing that I can think of, is that maybe it's that SoundBlaster *PRO* emulation problem. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! To: Ultrasound Daily Digest HHmm... did things get better or what then? Let me elaborate. Ram prices have always been going down year after year. In fact, awhile back, the best price around here was $32 for a 1 Meg SIMM. But then, during Fall last year, US slapped a 85% or some such increase in chips exported from US and into Canada (some free trade!) with the results for the consumers seeing abuot the end price doubled! And that just happened to be around the time the GUS was released. So as I was one of the first guys in town to get the GUS, they were all 256k only. After a couple of weeks of playing around with it, I saw a local place putting the DRAMs we need on sale and I was able to upgrade my card from 256K to 1 Meg for $70, yes, CAN$70, not $30. ANd that was the best price for a good many weeks cause I was watching. The best price for a 1 Meg SIMM was about $52 but normal was around $60. I see that the prices of SIMMs around here have dropped but not by that much. SO I don't expect the prices of our DRAMs to have dropped that much either. I guess Eastern Canada must have recoverd from this US tariff a lot faster than us in the west. Oop,s just reread your email, you were talking about $30 + taxes, while I'm talking about $70 taxes included. But still.... So, if prices are cheaper where you are (espcecially for those in US!!), get the DRAMs locally. I'd be a lot cheaper in most cases for us in Canada (in the west anyways) are still fighting trade wars. Thomas. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1993 08:18:20 -0400 (AST) From: Shadow Of Fear Message-Id: Subject: Problems with PLAYMIDI 3.50 To: Ultrasound Daily Digest /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Directly from his dark office on the top of a dark Tower..... \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Hi, This is getting really annoying. Everytime I play a MIDI file using PLAYMIDI 3.50, randomly, the program will hang my computer completely. When I reboot and replay the same MIDI file, it will hang again but at the different part of the file. Some other time, it won't hang until my second or third song. Thus replaying the first MIDI file correctly. I heard that other GUS owners has the same problem with PLAYMIDI 3.40 & 3.50. I wrote a message to Chris Yusik, but he's still silent. We hardly hear from him. Yesterday, I couldn't play a single file. I tried running ULTRINIT, GUSMOD, PLAY669 before PLAYMIDI. No improvements. To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Windows problems never die --> they fester and mutate into something uglier. I have done everything as I believe I am supposed to.. Ultrasnd.ini in the Ultrasnd directory, the drivers are installed properly. I now am getting the message "Invalid Patch Version" to appear twice upon startup and any time I try to load a patch for use with the old version of Winjammer. I am getting the system sounds out of my GUS, but nothing more... Nothing from WinJammer 2.24 (or whatever the latest version ftp'able is) or any other windows sound card using program (other than Patchman - which I occasionally do get sounds out of). PLEASE HELP ME (sorry, I thought the air of desparation would help).
