To the person who accidentally deleted axelf.arj, don't worry about it...I think the original upload was bad anyway, so you probably saved some people some wasted download time! Anyway, the original uploads were bad, but I'm pretty sure that things should be OK this time. If not, let me know, and I will try again. How the GUS works is that digital samples, snippets of sound if you like, are loaded into the GUS and then you tell the GUS to play them back. These sample snippets are usually called patches. For instance SBOS has a set of patches that let it emulate other soundcards. There is also a set of patches to play midi files supplied with the GUS > >Could some kind soul please define the various file formats >(mod, snd, wav, 699, voc, any others?) What are they? How are they >created, edited, played? mod= amiga music module, has sequence information and samples in them to play them you need gusmod11.lzh snd= there is no standard "snd" file format, but the GUS's USS8 program saves samples with an snd extension- see the manuals wav= windows sample format. You can record these with the windows sound recorder into a GUS if you have a microphone, and play back with this 669= sequence/sample file like a mod play them back with p669gu0.arj voc= soundblaster sample file format I dont remember how to play back these except by using gts If you want more stuff on sound formats see the file audio210.faq in the info directory on epas I hope all this stuff makes sense james@sol1.uel.ac.uk ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Feb 93 17:24:31 EST From: Andreas Turanski Message-Id: <9302040448.AA26043@w20-575-41> Subject: Does Gravis have an 800 number? I might as well answer the second part of my own question since I bit the _long-distance_ ($$) bullet and called the 604-431-5020 (non-800) number back in my homeland (Canada): I would still like to know if they have an 800 number. They rattled off a few of the new GUS packages they will be selling almost all of which included one form of Gravis hand controller or other and some software (a game, etc. etc.) More INTERESTINGly they said that the new music software was *SHIPPING-NOW* which *I* at least did not know until they told me. When asked, they also said the GUS 3D would be shipping in *MARCH* and that the *UPGRADE* for *CURRENT* GUS owners would be *** $10 *** If this has been said already and I just forgot then Oops. Sorry. Wish I could remember if she said _when_ in March... I guess with the upgrade costing $10 (I already have a pair of headphones which was THE ONLY OTHER NEW ADDITION TO the GUS package besides the 3D software according to the rep) I will probably take the GUS-plunge when I get the money and hopefully _before_ the 3D comes out. To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Hello, and thanks in advance for any and all help. The first thing I would like to say, is that everything was working. Then, occasionally, I'd have problems with SBOS loading. Then, I got a HDD controller failure. Now, I can't get SBOS to load without locking my machine. some specifics: using 1.22. (I tried 1.23 but it didn't work, either. Didn't try extensively) While using sbos -d it locks up while loading SBOS1.SBS, but I can CAD out of it (Note, CAD = Ctrl-Alt-Delete) IF I don't run ULTRINIT first. But, I don't know if the problem is with sbos1, or just that sbos1 is the first patch... If I do run ULTRINIT, I don't get anything when I run SBOS, immediate hard lockup. Everything that runs native (windows, GUS setup, playmidi) still runs fine. Loading SBOSDRV.SYS seems to make things worse, but by this point, I was losi ng patience. My config.sys and autoexec.bat files change a lot. Ive tried it with everyth ing from load everything, to bare bones configurations. My plea: Any ideas? The HDD failure makes me think my controller might be going, but I'd much prefer to be sure before replacing it. What can I check in the GUS stuff? Thank y'all for your time. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Feb 93 9:55:22 PST From: Brian W. Antoine Message-Id: Subject: GUS and Adaptec 1542B To: Ultrasound Daily Digest I'm running the 1542B as the only disk controller in my 386/40 box and the GUS seems to be working as well as I could expect. I did have to switch it to INT 15 because the 1542B was already using INT 11. My only problem is that I can't use the 16bit DMA channels. I don't get parity errors, it just locks solid the moment I access the card. It works fine if I use the 8bit DMA channel. I haven't opened up the box to look for the "OPTI" word yet, I'm not sure I want to :-) -- Brian W. But some of mty mods don't work properly, i think because they are Protracker mods, I heard that version 1.2 was to be available in the next couple of days (over 2 weeks ago) which would include Protracker support as well as a graphical interface, background playing using interupts, and lots of other cute features. Is anyone > using a 1542B as their primary controller and without difficulties? > Any special setups, limitations (sampling rates???), etc.? I've got an Adaptec 1540B (no floppy support, but otherwise identical to the 1542B) and have had no problems with it and the GUS. The major problems I had were with SETUP and the default GF1 IRQ (11 is taken by the Adaptec). Since SETUP wouldn't co-exist well with QEMM, I couldn't change the default and so access to the SCSI drive failed. Thankfully, my primary drive is an IDE so I could still boot and fix the problem... Note that I haven't tried 44.1Khz sampling but I think the Adaptec is fast enough to handle it. Alot depends on what disk you're using as well...
