My ultrasnd card is on port 210, instead of the more usual 220, but I dont usually have trouble getting gus stuff to work. The tsr in the gmod package works fine, but when I try to run gmod it say something like "file not found" and clears the screen. After this happens though, any attempt to do a dir results in the system hanging. I have a 486sx with 4megs, an ide disk and an adaptec 1542 scsi disk. The scsi is mounted with aspi disk and I usually run smartdrv. hints, tips copies of config.sys and autoexec.bat files gratefully received. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Feb 93 19:23:32 SST From: Shih-Ping Chan Message-Id: <9302261123.AA20569@nuscc.nus.sg> Subject: GM patches + new software: when? To: Ultrasound Daily Digest This is no longer just a FAQ but a QWAIDM (question whose answer I desire most): When will the new GM patch set and software be available? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 93 20:16:28 PST From: ericb@sierra.com Message-Id: <9302260416.AA08653@sierra.com> Subject: LucasArts support To: Ultrasound Daily Digest The following is a reply concerning support for GUS: Here is a comment from Peter McConnell. "We are impressed with the Gravis card. However, support of any new hardware takes a significant development effort. Since the Gravis card is brand new, very few people have one, and we need to see what kind of customer support it gets before we embark on new development. If the card is popular, you can be sure that we will give it the same full support we do for other widely used hardware." Also Michael Land says this: "Ever since I heard about the Ultrasound, I have been extremely enthusiastic about the significant step forward it represents. As a person who is primarily focused on audio, I can really appreciate the value of having this kind of power to work with. For me, the only real question is how to get there... i.e., how soon can I justify to my managers the extra overhead of supporting the card in native mode. The answer depends on sales. I hope it sells big, soon, so I can start working with it." To: Ultrasound Daily Digest I've been trying to make my MIDI IN on the GUS work for well over a month now, I need help. I sent for the pinout of the port from Gravis and got it, but it still doesn't seem to work. I would greatly appreciate it if someone who has this working could tell me which pin on the midi out of a synthesizer goes to which pin on the GUS. Please reference it as if I was looking at the connectors from the outside. I have a Yamaha PSR400 if that makes any difference. Thanks. First they are going to do them, then they aren't, then a 3rd party will, then Gravis will, etc. I'd suggest sending mail to someone (Alan Alveraz?) requesting drivers (yet again) in the hopes that they get a clue. In other words, yes, Gravis, there ARE lots of folks out here running OS/2. We want native drivers/SBOS that we can use to get sound out of your soundcard. In case you haven't noticed, both Creative Labs AND MediaVision think enough of OS/2 to have released (free) driver sets. Get with the program! To: Ultrasound Daily Digest Well, it's ABOUT TIME people! Wake up! There are a lot of GUS owners, and you CAN get these companies to support you. 1) Boycott companies who say they won't fix compatibility problems (Sierra sure comes to mind) and write them (snail mail works best) and tell them why you won't buy their products. 2) Write to companies that do support the GUS (ex. Accolade, Novalogic) and thank them for doing it. There is no excuse for a company like Sierra Online to exist today. They are the Microsoft of the entertainment world, and the reason they exist is because thousands of people seem to think they have to take whatever they can get in computer games. This is 100% BS.If you let the companies know what you want, and let them know that you won't take anything less, they will have no choice but to comply. - Dan Nicholson ________________________________________________________ Dan Nicholson - PCkS Associates - (908)964-8066 - ModDan 553 Thoreau Terr. To my surprise, the game runs INCREADIBLY slow on my 386/33 w/387 co processor running with sbos on my GUS. In fact it is UNPLAYABE. The speach does not work either. I have read though, that it is supposed to be increadibly smooth, even on a 386/33. I think this is due to SBOS. Is there any way to fix this? I have (like I mentioned) a 386/33 w/386 co, 4 megs or ram, running with QEMM 6.02, DOS 5.0, and SBOS 1.22 loaded. I would really like help on getting it to work. I do not want to play a game without sound when it cost me 60 bucks. ----- Matthew Spewak, Princeton High School BBS DNS: mspe@phsbbs.princeton.nj.us UUCP: ...!princeton!phsbbs!mspe Disclaimer: Author bears full responsibility for this message. ------------------------------ End of Ultrasound Daily Digest V2 #55 ******************************
