I just added an upgrade chip for my Max but I am still having some problems when I play MIDI songs through Cakewalk Pro (2.0). For many of the songs (larger ones), I get an error saying that there is no memory available for any more patches. It is always the drums that get left out. However, when I go into the Patch Manager (Windows, GUS disks, version 3.57), and I load the same .MID file, the drums load fine and the song will play as it should. If I reload the file from within Cakewalk, I loose the drums again until I repeat the above procedure. Does anybody have an answer to this one? -- *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | Loren Kling | * lkling@ucssun1.sdsu.edu * | SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 1995 12:54:05 -0500 (EST) From: Christopher McKillop Subject: Re: GUS Daily Digest V20 #23 > Yesterday Len Moskowitz wrote > > >The 16-bit DB only goes to 44.1 kHz. Nope, I am affraid that you are wrong on the first count...The GUS MAX uses the CODEC for the 48Khz and play back...Note that it is only one channel of playback OR record at this rate. It is only on the MAX, not the DB. As for this "extra" DMA the MAX has...Ummm, it only uses 2, just like the normal GUS. The CODEC uses an extra PORT, not DMA.... How do i know, i work for rather big company designing rather large chips, lets say 100,000+ gates for you techo's and write-back is the only way to go, though ther are others, but lets not worry about them. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 1995 01:15:19 -0800 (PST) From: Loren Kling (that's me) Subject: GusMAX - play and record??? I seem to be having trouble understanding what the use is for different play and record DMA channel settings (in Windows GUS config). When I am in Cakewalk, for example, I can record on one Midi channel while others are playing back. I have a feeling, though, that this "play and record" thing is not MIDI related.... or is it? In other words, what does it do? Also, what does changing the buffer size do?-- *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | Loren Kling | * lkling@ucssun1.sdsu.edu * | SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 1995 11:37:56 GMT From: "HUGHES.BF CBY825" Subject: GUS patch file spec request Do you have a file spec for GUS patch files? I think I have a pre 3.xx and find hard to believe that Gravis is dropping us in the new PMODE megaem. If they do: I'll break my GUS in two parts and ship it to africa in a little black box with a white skull on it, and then I'll by something from Creative Labs. Thanks in advance, Emil R, Norway. P.s Drop those f.cking huge signatures. They are ugly and annoying. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Mar 1995 12:58:08 GMT From: Clarke Brunt Subject: Re: Midi-in not available. >I hope someone can help me to solve my problem with MIDI. I am a >happy owner of GUS but when I tried to make use of my synthesiser >MIDISOFT Recording Session announced that "Windows reports no MIDI-in >devices available..........if needed reinstall using Control Panel" The GUS Windows driver for the MIDI port is called ultmport.drv. This should have been loaded onto your system by the GUS software install program, and will probably be in \windows\system, although it (or a copy) may still be in the ultrasnd directories. The driver is specified in system.ini by a line like MIDI1=ultmport.drv (the 1 on the end is for the second MIDI device, since the first one is usually taken up by the MIDI Synth driver, i.e. MIDI=ultrasnd.drv). The other UltraSound related component specified in system.ini is device=grvsultr.386. If the files are not in \windows\system, then their path should be included. If you have these set correctly and it still doesn't work, then I have heard that motherboards which do not support NMI (the non-maskable interrupt) prevent MIDI in from working. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Mar 1995 21:00:29 GMT From: ct91@cityscape.co.uk (Damian Scully) Subject: Nascar and Joysticks Someone yesterday wrote: > I have had no problems using a joystick with Nascar (apart from the > usual ones of learning to drive with a stick not a wheel 8-) ) >Can't remember my settings, sorry. The MidiSoft program doesn't have any printing options, and I'm assuming there's a "pro" version they sell for mucho $$$. Are there any shareware programs that do this? Thanks. BTW, anyone hear about the word on GUS support for the upcoming NBA Jam release for the PC? I can't wait. ------------------------------ Date: 24 Mar 95 1:18 -0800 From: Thomas Wong Subject: Ultrasound Internet Archive Services - New Files Validated - March 23, 1995 GRAVIS ULTRASOUND INTERNET ARCHIVE SERVICES NEWS ============================================================================== Hello all. I know I was slow in validating files this time around. But what a batch of files! There has been more files uploaded than approx the same period last time. Looks like we are still growing exponentially! :) Way to go GUS supporters/uploaders! Once again, we have some really cool stuff for the GUS, many of which are for GUS only! We have everything from more cool new games like Descent and patches to make current games support GUS, to cool sneak previews from Gravis for new cool software and all for free!! to cool new sound file formats like XM which is design to really show off GUS's capabilities hence notice the creation of the new subdirectories: /sound/xm /sound/xm/files /sound/xm/util /sound/xmi /sound/xmi/files /sound/xmi/util to cool new utils from new sound file players, even one with dancing people just for the GUS, to everything from a playing audio CD util to Manley's new OS/2 driver, GUS DRAM dumper, pitch-shifter, Windows patch selector......etc...etc....etc.... Way to go everyone! Thanks for supporting the GUS and developing all these cool stuff for the GUS. Looking at the ever growing mega-size GUS digests, we have tons of people around the world who all appreciate it too! The among of members in the GUS digests are also mushrooming. And now with AMD threatening to make the GUS a standard, there is no where for the GUS to go but up! Up up and away! :) Anyway, enough blabbling. Once again, thanks to all GUS programmers, supporters and GUS population as a whole! Happy GUSing! And I'll just drop a small, little hint, that I may have another announcement for you all soon.... ;) Thomas.
