Message-ID: <9305252320.AA181912@wsuaix.csc.wsu.edu> Anybody gotten SVGA Air Warrior to run with their GUS? It talked toa Kesmai Co. rep. and he said that jumpers 2 or 10 needed to be set. First, I couldn't find a jumper 10. Jumper 2 is the joystick jumper and I all ready have it set. Perhaps, the rep. was talking about interrupts and not jumpers. Any suggestions? -bob crane rcrane@wsuaix.csc.wsu.edu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 May 93 4:23:05 CDT From: cowles@hydra.convex.com (John Cowles) Subject: Bug in Windows setup Message-ID: <9305240923.AA12894@hydra.convex.com> Hi Folks, While installing the new disks I ran into a bug in the windows setup. Because I have an Adaptec SCSI controller which uses interrupt 11, I changed my GF1 interrupt to 12. During the windows setup, a line was put into my system.ini that said: gf1_int=11 Needless to say, everything hung (or gave spurious errors) when I tried to run windows. It took me a LONG time to find the problem, so if you have changed your interrupt, look in the system.ini file in the section [ultrasnd.drv] and make sure it's right. Interestingly enough, I had also changed the midi interrupt to 7 and that was put in correctly. So far, everything else is working fine. I was extremely gratified (although no richer :-)) to see that Gravis is distributing my (classic banjo) midi version of Couperin's 'Les Barricades Mysterieuses' in this release, but upset because they are missing the midifile 'bikes.mid' which the midi1mb.bat file tries to load. Message-ID: ReprintFrom: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.announce,comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.misc,comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard Hello all... I just got back from Comdex, and WOW!!!, so many computers, so much to see, and all the great presentations... definitely something you must experience at least once... Anyway, about the Ultrasound and new drivers w/Strike Commander, etc... - The guy demoing Strike Commander was next to the Gravis booth, and was with Origin. He said he had to use a 'patch on a patch' to get the Ultra- sound going with the new drivers, but to me, it looked like it was working flawlessly... i.e., no lockups/slowdown... then again, it was a 486/66 he was using too... - I talked to one of the Gravis reps, and he said the reason for the delay with the MIDI connector is faulty wires from the supplier in Taiwan. They've gotten several different shipments of wires, and each time, it set them back a few weeks. - About the 16-bit daughtercard... he didn't know when that would be done, but said they were still working at it. Same for 3D stuff, although he did say it would be at least 2 months or so before we saw anything to do with 3D. - The new drivers that will be used first with Strike Commander, etc.., will be available soon, so expect to see a lot more support for the Ultra- sound. I think that's about it. The thing I'm anticipating most is the stupid MIDI cable. At least now I know it wasn't Gravis' fault for that, but it would be nice to see my keyboard put to some real use with some cool 16-bit patches. :-) ccastge@prism.gatech.edu | Why are we here? --Neil Peart a.k.a., Guy Elden Jr. | Because we're here... ------------ Currently being 'frizzle-fried' | Why does it happen? in the CS realm... | Because it happens... Is there a patch for this version? The old one checks the files and says that the source code is missing and then quits. I miss my digital sounds. Please e-mail me an answer. Thank you for your time. Liao Subject: Gravis 16-bit daughterboard Message-ID: <199305252337.AA16166@aerospace.aero.org> Now that we know the GUS cannot sustain 44.1KHz sampling in 32-voice wavetable: mode...what's the point of being able to record at 48KHz?!? If what I read in the GUS SDK was correct, the maximum sampling rate for any single oscillator is 44.1KHz (14 voices active=44.1KHz sample rate.) Since you can't set the active# voices <14, I don't see how you can directly take advantage of a 48KHz sampling rate, unless the daughterboard has its own method of circumventing the maximum 44.1KHz rate. Also, I heard that Origin wants to demo Strike Commander with the GUS, and is using the new Miles driver. However, someone's re-post of John Miles states that Strike Commander uses non-standard implementation of AIL (Miles library.) So does this mean Origin has or has NOT completed GUS support for Strike Commander? It is very unusual for a company to go back and ADD support for a specific device (in this case, a sound card) in a game already on the market, even a really popular game. Well, at least it's unusual for Origin to do that. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 May 93 12:21:40 From: john.smith@gravis.com Subject: HI THERE Message-ID: <9305231221.A8840wk@gravis.com> Decided to stop by work today to read what you were all saying about the stuff we released on Friday. Here are a few things to keep in mind. 1) When you unzip it all onto floppy disks, make sure your floppy do NOT have a disk label OR are labeled ULTRAS ND_1, ULTRAS ND_2, ULTRAS ND_3, .... 2) Here are the contents of each of the 6 DISK.ID files (one/disk). Message-ID: Hello everybody, Last weekend i tried to install my GUS in my brothers PC (a 80486DX/33). Installation worked for everything except SBOS. The installation procedure said something about "SBOS vector not available". After trying several settings of both IRQ and DMA channels i went on with the installation (so no SBOS, let's see if the rest is working). The rest did indeed work ok. One thing i did not change is the base port addres (220h), this requires dip-switches and i did not have the time to change them. During bootup (CONFIG.SYS) the ULTRINIT is not giving problems. The SBOS (started from AUTOEXEC) gives the error message: The NMI procedure on this P.C. is disabled and SBOS is NOT installed. When i run SETUP again all tests go wel INCLUDING the SBOS test ?!? I tried changing some relevant BIOS settings, no changes. Anybody had this problem too ? Solutions ? The GUS worked fine on my 80386SX/16Mhz PC with the same software (DRDOS 6.0, EMM386 from DRDOS etc.).
