I figured out how to display the info in a dialog box and sure enough, it was failing to find the full path; instead it just got the drive. I also hacked it but I made the mistake of specifying win.com instead of win.ini (it looks for win.com earlier in the script). So it sorta worked although it trashed my win.com. The suggested retail price for Cakewalk Professoinal for Windows 2.0 is $349. Owners of Cakewalk Professional for Windows 1.0 can upgrade to 2.0 for $49. Owners of Cakewalk Professional for DOS (any version) can trade up for $75. Owners of standard Cakewalk for DOS can trade up for $129. For more information, or to request an evaluation copy, contact Chris Rice at 12-Tone, 617-926-2840, or fax 617-924-6657. If it supports patch caching then this is my tix! YAY! For drumkits if you want C3 to be played anywhere on the keyboard, use F7 in patch.exe. You can modify the pitch to tune your instrument with the FC dial to the right, then press TUNE to the left. Do this only once because there is a bug in patch.exe that will multiply the new factor by the old one, instead of replacing it. For cubase, it's a no go. Maybe cause i have cubase v1.0... So i hope i get my Powerchords and recording studio... And it looks like we may have another option cause cakewalk is in a major rev! Check my other msg for details. (Another btw, SampleVision is now selling 99$ from turtlebeach and 79$ at some mail orders... Guess they are dumping it because the windows version will be coming out, probably in prevision of all the RAM wavetables cards to come out. Personally i've tried the DOS version this week and i HATE the interface... Turtle beach is not looking too good in the software department, 2 thumbs down out of two: 1 for wave and 1 for samplevision. But then again, the IBM audio software is pretty lame in general). How did the guy figure out how to EMULATE an MPU-401 port? I assume its only the "dumb" mode, but still, that's a good accomplishment. Gravis should be impressed as well. Perhaps Gravis could make ULTRAMID load all into EMS or something, but I guess then it would require a 386, and wouldn't work with games that run in protected mode (Commanche Overkill.) I guess I should have kept my Soundblaster 1.5. Then I could use the SB 1.5 for speech/sfx, and the Gravis for "MT-32/SCC" music. The emulation isn't perfect, but in [most] cases, the resultant music of MEGEM is better than SBOS. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 93 23:18:32 EDT From: Jon Spewak Subject: MEGEM and QEMM? This package attempts to create music using random and conditional probabilities according to parameters you set. This is a shareware product, but is fully functional (not cripple-ware). If you like it I encourage you to register it (only US $1) and help support future music software I'd like to create. To run the program, you will need a 386SX or higher, Windows 3.1, and a Sound Card or MIDI Card that has the appropriate drivers loaded in Windows 3.1. You will also need to have the MIDI Mapper (General MIDI) and the MCI Sequencer enabled. Or, you can save the MIDI files and play them on your own sequencing software. The Help file contains full instructions on using the system as well as some troubleshooting tips on setting up. Enjoy! York, PA - Turtle Beach Systems, creators of the award-winning MultiSound sound card have announced their second multimedia hardware product, The Turtle Beach Maui Wavetable Synthesizer Upgrade Card. Maui was designed so that owners of lower quality cards can inexpensively add the benefits of a 24 voice wavetable synthesizer and sampling capabilities to their existing systems. "We tried to develop a low cost solution for those individuals who have upgraded their sound cards several times and still don't have the benefit of a great synthesizer." said Curtis Crowe, Vice President of Sales. Turtle Beach's MultiSound card was the first Multimedia sound card for Windows computing which didn't support the now antiquated FM Synthesis Process. This 20 year old technology, though adequate for game play, leaves much to be desired for real multimedia work. Maui's General MIDI compatible 24 voice 16 bit samples are stored in 2 megabytes of ROM onboard the card. In addition to the 128 General MIDI instruments provided by Maui, Sample Store (TM), a user-definable sample player is included so that users can create their own samples using any existing Windows .WAV files as a starting point. This means that virtually anything that can be recorded using an existing sound card can be played back via a MIDI sequencer. Samples are automatically transposed to create incredibly interesting new sounds. Maui ships with 256K of sample RAM which is upgradeable to 8 megabytes of storage RAM. Maui is also MPU-401 compatible, so its installation into an existing Windows environment is quick and painless. Maui's list price is 199.00 and will be available worldwide from authorized Turtle Beach Dealers starting on September 1, 1993. ###End### -- Brian Wilson (619) 587-3054 bfw@calmasd.Prime.COM bwilson@ucsd.edu Computervision, San Diego, CA ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jul 93 15:06:51 From: john.smith@gravis.com Subject: ULTRASOUND DAILY DIGEST V Message-ID: <9307121506.A1289wk@gravis.com> My digest was missing everything after this point.
