Can anyone tell me how to contact them and find out what that price is. I can't find a phone number for a sales/upgrade department anywhere. I can't get through on the tech line, it always busy. And as a last ditch effort I faxed in a request for the information to the technical support fax. Still nothing. I know Gravis has strange advertising policies but this is rediculous. I'm talking about response here! Thanks to all who wrote and answered my question regarding how to disable Doublespace: dantonio@magick.tay2.dec.com, brian@EE.CORNELL.EDU, lcheung@mosaic.uncc.edu, SWHITTAK@gst-soft.demon.co.uk, mikebat@netcom.com, aktang@sdcc13.UCSD.EDU, tarjan@iastate.edu, dauria@cs.umb.edu, dkwong@cory.EECS.Berkeley.EDU. (and those I forget) *Really* nice people on this mailing list. About "Hex Appeal" - Yes, I got it to work by renaming the dblspace.bin file, and using my demo-autoexec and config.sys - ie. 617k base mem free. Worked like a charm. But I wonder. As I have all my Ultrasound files on the compressed drive, and I didn't have access to it while running the demo, the music worked anyway. Does that mean that you really don't have to have the software (ie setup files, patches etc etc) to be able to run programs/demos/games designed to use the GUS (in case they don't use the patches that is..) ? The demo was shorter than I'd expected, but it was kinda nice. I also liked the 'swaying' chessboard at the end credits, and didn't that rotating cube (we've seen it before, haven't we? :)) rotate a bit faster than I've seen before? With the animations on the sides and everything, I was somewhat suprised that it floated as well as it did. (I have a 386DX-33 by the way, and got that chess-ending of CD2 in slow motion). The music was average though. Okay, thanks again to all who helped me! Regards, /Erik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Sep 1993 13:13:10 -0400 From: "Mark C. This problem you have, with freezing up for a moment, is not (i think) caused by megaem, but it is a bug in xwing, because on both my computers it appeared also, and i just ran it with the normal soundBlaster.. Message-ID: You said it yourself. When you said you machine freezes up sometimes using AIL. AIL is great but it ain't native mode. Also all you people out there this is just a sound board not a religion or ideaology. So take it easy on the posts see the forest for the trees. Bentley ) Subject: Support for GUS Message-ID: <9309141946.AA29346@cda.mrs.umn.edu> I am strongy considering buying an Ultrasound sound card, but am concerned if there is good software support, as well with the compatibility issues. I don't plan on having more than one sound card, and only intend to use the card for games and playing various music/sound files. (more/less just a toy) :-) Any opinions on this issue GUS owners? I've played it with Sound Canvas and the problem was there. I guess that it has something to do with machine speed but maybe not. If I removed the General MIDI and just had my Sound Blaster going then everything was OK. Anyhow, MEGAEM is most likely not the culprit. ------------------------------ End of Ultrasound Daily Digest V6 #14 *************************************
